Chiropractic is a healthcare
profession with its own distinct principles and practice with a primary
focus on the musculoskeletal system and the effects on the nervous
system as it relates to the spine and patients’ health.
The majority of people who consult a chiropractor do so for back and
leg pain, neck and arm pain and headaches. However, chiropractic can
also be helpful for sports injuries affecting other joints. Even chronic
jaw joint pains often respond favourably to chiropractic care. Chiropractic
has also been shown to be effective for a variety of other conditions
such as infantile colic, childhood asthma and bedwetting. Chiropractors
also treat women with chronic pelvic pain during and after pregnancy.
Chiropractic treatment consists of safe, often gentle, specific adjustments,
done by hand, to free joints and other areas of the body that are
not moving properly. The treatment does not usually hurt and usually
requires a short thrust to a joint, which might result in an audible
‘click’. This may bring a feeling of well-being. This
‘click’ is the sound of bubbles of gas popping in the
fluid of the joint as pressure is released.
This safe, effective treatment is supported by advice on the use of
ice, gentle rehabilitative exercise and lifestyle changes. |
